![]() ![]() By the last mission, I never wanted it to end. When I saw I had invested 120 hours into it, all I felt was irony towards my initial worry that I wouldn’t even finish the game. The game was the most fun I had the year I bought it. Not me though, I loved the grind which was being a demigod mercentary hunting down bounties and cult leaders. Instead of worrying if the game is too long to “complete”, should we think more incrementally? I remember playing Assassin’s Creed Odyssey and loving every moment then being shocked everyone (lots of redditors) hated “the grind”. The famous quote within the Stormlight Archives fantasy novel rings true with gaming. Yes, there is an overarching story that you would like to experience the ending of but if the moment-by-moment gameplay is a massive grind then is it even worth it? They don’t want to complete the game, they want to be kept busy in an entertaining way. This is because the core gameplay is the main attraction. No one complains about the number of hours to get all the collectibles of a first-person shooter or fighting game. Why Open Worlds not other genres? Horizon Zero Dawn: Forbidden West This has led to endless debates on games becoming too long but when you read deep into the comment sections you notice that the biggest retractors are the completists who either want the platinum trophy or are suffering from a benign version of FOMO. This might sound obvious to most casual gamers but there seems to be an obsession with hours of content within open world games. I have never been that interested in how long a game takes to complete or how many hours are needed for a game to go platinum, all I tend to want is good core gameplay. And clearly it resonated with me and many others. This comment is in response to Dying Light 2 needing 500 hours to fully complete with multiple endings. The amount of time it takes to complete a game doesn’t really matter to me if the core gameplay is good, and Dying Light’s gameplay was fantastic. I spent loads of time just killing zombies, parkouring around the city, searching for loot, crafting, and jumping on zombie heads. When 2021 rolls around, you would-be vampires are going to have your work cut out for you.“ I spent well over 100 hours enjoying Dying Light, and I barely did any missions after getting to the nice part of Harran. Bloodlines 2 is set just after an event called the Mass Embrace, during which Seattle's vamps bit a whole bunch of people and created a horde of so-called Thin-Bloods, while the supernatural community's age-old clans continue to battle for supremacy. You won't make this journey alone, either. Camera phones and surveillance equipment are everywhere, and staying off of the radar is easier said than done. As in the first game, you'll have to navigate your afterlife while trying to keep your very existence a secret. The company has enlisted writer Brian Mistoda, who worked on the first game, to tell a new story about a freshly turned creature of the night in Seattle. Even better, developer Hardsuit Labs seems like they're doing Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2 right. Still, over the decade and a half, Bloodlines has become a cult favorite among RPG fans, making a sequel an easy proposition. Obviously, the graphics will be better than in the last Psychonauts, and the 3D platforming is getting some much-needed tweaks, but all in all Psychonauts 2 is simply going to be more Psychonauts. ![]() You'll still be diving into the minds of various agents to unravel the mysteries hidden in their psyches, but you'll also learn more about Raz and his unique family.
